FAQs

Are you female?

Have you held a valid UK Driving License for at least 12 months?

Do you have no more than six points on your Driving License? (Any Drink / Drug or Mobile Phone related convictions cannot be accepted)

Do you have a UK Passport or Residence Permit?

Can you speak English and understand written English?

As part of the licensing process, you’ll also need to be able to pass a DVLA group 2 medical which takes around 10 minutes and includes a health questionnaire, an eyesight test and a blood pressure check. We will also apply for an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check which checks details of a person’s criminal record.

We’ll help you all the way through the process.

To begin with, we’ll have a phone appointment to explain the process to you and answer any questions you may have. Then we’ll meet you in person, to help you complete the necessary paperwork and take copies of your Driving Licence, UK Passport or Residence Permit and proof of address (which could be a bank statement, council tax bill or utility bill for example).

Next, you’ll be enrolled in the DG Cars Academy which will help you complete your licence application, prepare for your assessment and arrange your medical and DBS check.

As soon as your assessment is passed, and your licence is issued, our fleet partner DG Cars will give you everything you need to begin your new career as a Private Hire Vehicle Driver.

The standard time from first application to successful badge application is 12 to 16 weeks. We’re working with the licensing authority to create a fast track route for Think Pink drivers which could halve those timescales.

You’ll pay £100 on registration for your assessment and DBS, then £250 for your licence and badge.

After your first 100 drives, £100 is returned. After 500 drives the remaining £250 is returned. Therefore, driver training and licence are free of charge

You will be on the same terms as all the drivers at DG. The amount you will earn depends on the amount of time you work. There are some drivers earning more than £30,000 per year.

No. You will be driving a DG Cars vehicle for work. You will pay a £200 deposit for the car and can also use the car for personal use. DG will cover all the maintenance costs whilst you will pay for the fuel.

If you would prefer to use your own car, that’s an option too. We’ll help you apply for the vehicle’s license and supply the vehicle branding materials.

You will be a self-employed driver working for DG Cars.
It can be a full-time job, or you can work part time, and we can also look at job-share options. We’ll discuss this with you during the training phase, but it’s worth saying that in order to make it worthwhile, you’ll need to be able to commit to a certain number of hours per week.
We’ll go through the implications in detail during your onboarding, and help you get set up to operate as a self-employed driver. The most obvious implication of self-employment is that you will be responsible for paying tax on your earnings.

You will automatically become a member of the Think Pink Alliance. Think Pink will help you throughout the application process, and once you have your licence will continue to offer you relevant training to help you succeed in your new career.

It’s also a place where you can meet other Think Pink drivers to make friends and share experiences. Over time, you will have the opportunity to become a Think Pink mentor who helps new Drivers find their feet at the start of their driving careers.

What’s more, Think Pink is a social enterprise whose profits go to support the work of The Rosie May Foundation whose mission is empowering and protecting women around the world. So as part of Think Pink, you’re helping support other women.
