Think Pink was formed by the Rosie May Foundation as part of the charity’s mission to empower and support women across the world.
The Foundation was founded in 2004 in response to the brutal murder of Mary and Graham Storrie’s 10 year old daughter Rosie May. From the onset, Mary and Graham sought to create a living legacy to Rosie May.
Whilst in Sri Lanka a year later, the family were present when the Indian Ocean tsunami hit, claiming more that 230,000 lives across 14 countries. They decided there and then to turn tragedy into hope and give children in crisis the right to a future. The Foundation’s first project – the Rosie May Home for girls was opened in Sri Lanka for children who had lost parents in the tsunami.
The Foundation’s work has continued to this day, blossoming to a broader mission of empowering women and keeping families together.
For example, since 2016 – Project Hope has strengthened families through stability, health, education, network building and economic empowerment.
It was in the context of Project Hope that The Foundation purchased 10 pink tuktuks, and trained women to operate them as private hire vehicles to generate an income to maintain their families
Roll the clock forward 6 years and the Foundation decided that a similar empowerment model could be established in the UK by addressing the very low proportion of female taxi/private hire vehicle drivers in the UK.
